In this paper we will carry out a historical overview of the evolution of tourism in Sardinia, starting from the great increase of international tourist flows at the end of the 20th century and the important processes it triggered, to the challenges of the early years of the new millennium, such as the advent of low-cost airlines, up to the present day, with how significantly impact that Covid 19 impacted the sector. Supported by data, we will try to understand what were the most significant strengths and weaknesses that shaped the tourism industry in Sardinia, up to the changes we are currently facing and that will continue to interest us in the years to come.
