Tourism is one of the driving sectors of the entire economy of Sardinia and as such deserves a study from a scientific point of view. This contribution intends to illustrate the origins of what can be defined as a model of proto-tourism disconnected, for example, from the Grand Tour, highlighting which were the structures capable of hospitality in the capital, Cagliari. In particular, we will focus on the description of the different hotels that have characterized the history of the city: first of all the La Scala di Ferro hotel, which for years has been the center of worldliness and tourism in the city.
