This unpublished contribution by Prof. Giuseppe Doneddu, on which he was working and which he was unable to complete, deals with some general aspects of the Sardinian mining industry between the 19th and 20th centuries. In the essay, the positive aspects that mining held for the industrial growth of Sardinia emerge, but also the limits of an unequal development between the centre and the periphery, with a progressive impoverishment of the island, today deprived of fundamental resources,«impoverished by the savage exploitation of the ecosystem and heading towards a chronic economic underdevelopment», unable, compared to other disused mining areas and mining archaeology, to plan a future of socio-economic and environmental recovery.
