This essay underlines the importance of municipal sources for the study of the migratory flow directed abroad. Specifically, category XIII (“Foreign”) of the holder of the municipal archives of 1897 and the three classes into which it is divided are analyzed: “Communications with foreign countries”; “Emigrants”; “Those who emigrated”. Another source analyzed is AIRE (Registry of Italians residing abroad). Continuously updated on the basis of data and information from consular representations abroad, it is centralized at the Ministry of the Interior, but managed locally by each individual municipality. This is a very useful source especially for knowing the recent trend of the migratory phenomenon abroad.Downloads
