Prevalence of smoking in university students

Introduction: In the students of the Systems Engineering career of the State University of Milagro, it is possible to demonstrate by observation the presence of habitual tobacco consumers, where the prevalence of this habit at presentiss lightly balanced, however, it generates suspicion of its presumed increase. Objective: To determine the prevalence of smoking in University students of Commercial Engineering of the State University of Milagro during the period April to September of 2018. Methodology: The study was quantitative, deductive, analytical and synthetic, defined by a disproportional probabilistics tratified sample constituted by 154 students, resulting in a sample of 110 students surveyed. Results: where a smoking prevalence of 25% is demonstrated, identify in various type of factors that influence tobacco consumption, standing out with 50% due to curiosity, 14% due to family factors, 32% due to social factors and 4% due to fashion. Conclusions: A low prevalence of smoking is evidenced in university students and an association of factors that increases tobacco consumption around the associated environment is demonstrated, the area of development o factivities in its general context leads to imitation consumption.Downloads
