As historic sources, municipal archives - which are often underused by historians- are an effective tool when examining the phenomenon of emigration abroad. Historical municipal archives in Italy as well as in Spain conserve some documental categories that contain or could contain documents related to the topic of emigration abroad. The study first describes some 1897 Italian municipal Archives Classification Table Categories and the Spanish municipal Archives Classification Table Documentation Series in Local Administration VI in addition to examining and comparing the sources of island emigration to Latin America as conserved by the City of Ibiza and some Sardinian town councils relating to the 19th and 20th centuries.Downloads
