By tracing back the dynamics of the population of La Maddalena island, in particular, in relation to the flows coming from other islands in the Mediterranean, such as Corsica, Capraia, Ponza and Procida, this essay describes the migration flow coming from the little insula heading straight to Latin America during the Kingdom of Sardinia and the first years of the Kingdom of Italy. Those migrants where mostly sailors and naval officers. Some of them, under the lead of Giuseppe Garibaldi, fought in the ranks of the Italian Legion in Brazil and Uruguay, while others put roots in Argentina, staying in the navy, where they developed the main activity that had been carried out by the men of La Maddalena island during the 19th century.
