British community of Lisbon during the third quarter of the eighteenth century

This article caracterizes the British community of Lisbon in the social and economic points of view. It has as point of departure a list of British citizens who were living in Lisbon, that belongs to the Coleção Pombalina of the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal. It approaches to the connections of this community with the Portuguese society the Lisbon town council and the Portuguese government. It also analises the reactions of the British merchants to the economic measures and centralizing policy of the Marquis of Pombal.Downloads
