Direitos fundamentais em tempo de paz e de guerra. A repressão aos italianos durante o varguismo (1930 -1945)

Actions against Italian citizens in Brazil during Getúlio Vargas’ government, from 1930 to 1945, are analyzed here considering both the political project, authoritarian and nationalist, and Brazilian external interests, besides changes in the international scenery. Charges carried out by Brazilian authorities against fundamental rights those individuals were entitled to are shown to obey the internal rationale led by the rep ressive system: persecuting, punishing and expelling from Brazilian territory those whose ideas or actions would raise objections to the reigning power. Repression would take place against enemies in general – those considered to be dangerous to the national security. Nevertheless , it did severely hit a particular group – those who sympathized with the leftist ideology. It is also argued that the treatment Italians were submitted to by “Varguist” authorities was under the influence of the external politics and changes to the world order.Downloads
