This paper addresses the weight of the symbolic dimension in reproducing social structures inherited from colonial times. To do this, we start analyzing its genesis through a system based on colonial legislation, defining the right in the expression of grief and mourning as a way to maintain social order through the symbolic exercise associated with the hierarchy of death/life example. Subsequently, the linkages that sustain the continuity of the hierarchical logic and symbolic weight in Chile are built republishing, problematizing the role of the family in the reproduction of an unequal society.Downloads
