The purpose of this essay is to examine a numerically significant aspect of the activities of the Mental Health Centre (CSM for its acronym in Italian) of the Local Health Administration Unit 6 of Sanluri, consisting on the issuance of medical/legal assessments, also known as Certificates. The patients usually request ad hoc certificates or written statements in order to give evidence of their own health condition outside: for driving license renewal purposes, granting or renewal of firearms license, to request a medical leave of absence and, above all, in order to apply for certain social security benefits. Due to the fact that the requests for issuance of certificates usually end up with the acknowledgement of the appropriate social security benefits such as disability allowances and /or attendance allowances, it is more likely that the disorders of the applicants are severe enough for pensionable purposes, thus underestimating less severe pathologies such as Anxiety Disorders.Downloads
